Technical writers are always learning new skills, and one way to ensure we are heading in the right direction is to conduct a skills gap analysis. The Bureau of Labor Statistics and O*NET Online websites are two great resources to find the required skills to help us develop professionally. Another way to find good-to-know skillsets is to search job postings. Once we are skilled up and find interesting jobs, we can tailor our resume and cover letter with keywords to help us be top applicants and make it through the applicant tracking system. We also need a professional portfolio to display our work samples and show our skills. Our professional learning network goes beyond well-known technical writing platforms as Iād Rather be Writing and Write the Docs. We need to rely on each other as teammates and know that we can ask for and receive honest peer reviews and feedback when we need it.
